Documentary: International Women’s Day 2021 – WEPP Stories

On International Women’s Day 2021, Women’s Empowerment & Political Participation project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (WEPP-KP) presents valuable contributions of the project stakeholders for  women’s empowerment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

DSWOs Sessions on Gender Mainstreaming

WEPP-KP conducted 2-days training on Gender Mainstreaming and Communication Skills for selected DSWOs in January 2021. All the training participants shared their action plans for conducting one-day sessions in their respective offices and districts on gender mainstreaming to the staff, officers, academia and community members. In response to that action plan, 11 DSWOs as MTs conducted 13 one-day orientations on GM in five districts of KP in their respective offices in January – February 2021. The districts include; Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda and Swabi. Considering the events conducted in women related government offices and girl’s schools, women’s participation in these events was good and at least half of participants were women in these events. It was the first ever event on gender mainstreaming in the majority of locations where events were conducted and participants shared their experiences regarding issues faced by women in their respective villages and neighborhood. Master Trainers sensitized them regarding gender issues, how to resolve them and which options are available for women within the province both from the public and private sector regarding addressing issues. DCSW Members were have also been involved as participants in these events.

Office Supplies and Equipment for Gender Cell of SW, SE & WED

On the request of the Social Welfare, Special Education & Women Empowerment Department (SW, SE & WED), Women Empowerment & Political Participation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (WEPP-KP) procured and delivered one Laptop, one Desktop Computer, one Photocopier Machine, and two Cupboards for files and folders to the Gender Cell on 15th February 2021.

Validation Workshop with SP&GM Section of P&DD-KP for Communication Strategy and Plan

After the successful development of the Communication Strategy and toolkit for the KPCSW, the SP&GM section of P&DD-KP also requested WEPP-KP the same for itself. The project hired the services of a consultant firm and supported the Section in developing the Communication Strategy, communication plan, and public relationing (PR) toolkit. The Section is newly established so they needed a strategy and plan for highlighting its efforts for gender inclusion in the development projects and also its outreach in the government departments and public domain. The project has conducted a thorough review of its existing and future communication needs and also conducted a validation workshop for the finalization of the communication plan and strategy. The project has successfully finalized the Communication Strategy, communication plan, and PR toolkit for the Section in this reporting period.

Meeting with WPC Members for DCSW notification

Due to improved cooperation, WEPP-KP conducted a meeting with women MPAs of WPC on 27th January 2021 at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly for the support in the notification of DCSWs that was the hurdle in smooth implementation of the project activities. WPC assures its full support for the notification of DCSWs.

LGS Master Trainer Sessions on Gender Mainstreaming

WEPP-KP conducted TOT on Gender Mainstreaming for LGS Master Trainers in the last reporting period in September 2020. All the training participants shared their action plans for conducting one-day sessions in their respective offices and districts on gender mainstreaming to the staff, officers, academia and community members. In response to that action plan, 13 LGS MTs conducted 16 one-day orientations on GM in nine districts of KP in their respective offices in November 2020 – January 2021. The districts include; Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Kohat, Bannu, Buner and Swat. Considering the events conducted in hard areas regarding women participation like; Buner, Bannu, Charsadda, etc., women participation in these events was a challenge but due to the joint efforts of Master Trainers and WEPP-KP, women participants attended each and every event. In some locations like; Tehsil Municipal Offices (TMO) Buner, TMO Bannu, TMO Mardan, TMO Charsadda, it was the first ever event on the Gender Mainstreaming topic and the participants came to know about this for the first time and they felt satisfaction over this. The participants even invited and requested WEPP-KP for conducting these events in their respective villages as well. In TMO Takhtbhai Mardan where our event conducted by Female Master Trainer and that too on the Gender Mainstreaming, none of the women ever been as an employee, staff or in a leading role in that government office ever.

Trainings on Gender Responsive Communication Skills at DSW Nowshera and Charsadda

After perceiving the importance of gender-responsive communication skills by SW, SE & WED Officials in the gender-responsive training on leadership, management, and communication skills, they requested WEPP-KP to conduct one-day sessions in DSWOs in Nowshera and Charsadda on gender-responsive communication skills. The project then conducted 2 one-day sessions on gender-responsive communication skills in DSWOs in Nowshera and Charsadda in January 2021 for their capacity building on the importance of gender within a day to and day and official communication. Topics regarding king skill of communication, verbal and non-verbal communication, do’s and don’t in communication, listening skill, command, and knowledge in communication, talking to media, use of communication in offices, and gender-responsive communication was covered.

Internal Staff Training on First Aid Emergency Response

WEPP-KP with the technical support of Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rescue 1122 arranged the One-Day First Aid Emergency Training on 15 January 2021 at WEPP-KP Office, Peshawar. It has been conducted for capacity building of WEPP-KP Officials and staff, for dissemination of information regarding first aid emergency & use and information of first aid toolkit and equipment in WEPP-KP office by trainer from KP Rescue 1122.

WEPP-KP officials and staff were briefed on roles and responsibilities of the first aider, control of bleeding, managing the unresponsive person, air-way management, CPR, managing choking of adult and child and emergency moving of patient.

Documentary: Valuable contribution of Ms. Ammara Iqbal, Psychologist at Bolo Helpline of SW, SE & WED

The valuable contribution of Ms. Ammara Iqbal, Psychologist at Bolo Helpline of Social Welfare, Special Education & Women Empowerment Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in response to the training on gender responsive evidence based research at RAMADA Hotel, Islamabad on 19-20 November 2020 organized by Women’s Empowerment & Political Participation project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (WEPP-KP) with the financial support of  Global Affairs Canada.

Publication: SP&GM Section of P&DD Table Calendar 2021

Women Empowerment & Political Participation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (WEPP-KP) project with the financial support of Global Affairs Canada designed the table calendar for the year 2021 for the Social Protection & Gender Mainstreaming (SP&GM) Section of Planning & Development Department (P&DD) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on their request. The calendar includes the highlights of the major activities completed by the SP&GM Section during the year 2020. It also includes the WEPP-KP and the Government of Canada logos. The calendar will be distributed among all the major stakeholders for the communication of SP&GM activities and objectives.
